In a cosy mountain village deep inside the Rongcha Kingdom, two friends shared a single dream -- to become great painters. Seeking greatness, one of them decided to move to the big city, Sonira. He was convinced, as were most other artists from across the empire, that Sonira was where "things happened." The other friend chose to stay behind and work on his craft. In the city, the first friend met many artists and dreamers who spent their days basking in the city's energy, congratulating themselves simply for being in such a vibrant place. This intoxication of being surrounded by those who also believed themselves chosen was enough to convince him that he had crossed some invisible threshold. He felt himself nearer to greatness simply by proximity, as though genius were a fragrance one could inhale. Occasionally, he painted. Jivavarta —literally meaning  “Abode of the Sentient” —is a secular, grounded sociopolitical fictional universe created by author and philosopher Shon Mehta to explore human resilience, social architecture, power, identity, and moral philosophy without the influence of magic, destiny, or divine intervention. Serving as a consistent setting across multiple genres, the Jivavarta Universe examines how human choices, societal structures, and real-world constraints shape individuals, institutions, and civilizations.
